Ocean Art Journey

Sooraj Abraham’s journey into ocean art began with a childhood love for nature and the sea. This quiet connection grew stronger over the years as he moved from a career in hospital management to teaching in professional colleges, where learning and responsibility went hand in hand.

In 2009, he founded Planatearth, an environmental NGO dedicated to protecting natural ecosystems. While working on ocean plastic recovery projects, he spent time with fishermen collecting discarded plastic and ghost nets from the sea. In those moments, surrounded by ocean waste, a new idea took shape—turning what harms the ocean into art.

A self-taught artist, Sooraj now creates paintings using abandoned fishing gear, ghost nets, and filaments, materials that once threatened marine life. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh, his works transform ocean waste into expressive stories of movement, emotion, and hope—giving the ocean a renewed voice through art.
